A complete cast copper-alloy medieval to post medieval single looped buckle, dating to the period AD c.1250 to c.1400. The buckle is broadly oval in shape, with a knopped protrusion. In total it measures 21.16mm in length, 19.92mm in width and weighs 2.43g.
The "fishtail" tapers outwards from the frame to 16.61mm in length, before curving inwards slightly on itself. The "fishtail" measures 4.91mm in width, and is decorated by approximately eleven transverse ridges, all sloping towards the centre of the "fishtail", upon which the pin rests. The pin wraps around the central bar and measures 2.49mm in width before tapering to a point after 19.94mm in length. The patina and colour of the pin is markedly different to the rest of the buckle, being light green and rough in patina whilst the buckle is a smooth, dark green.
A similar parallel to this can be seen in Whitehead (2003) p15, no.91. The decoration is not entirely alike, but the shape is.
