An incomplete copper alloy Roman Developed T-shaped brooch, Colchester derivative, hinged pin, similar to Mackreth 2011, no.2229, dating 4th-5th century, AD.300-450. The brooch consists of the the head and pa, of south-western type. It is missing much of the bow and foot as well as the pin. The wings of the brooch are wide, approx.10mm each and quite narrow, they have an iron rod for the hinge running through them. There is a loop at the head of the brooch, integrally cast, it stands off the main bow on a short neck. Below this loop there is a smooth rectangular section followed by a longer rectangular section that has two recesses running parallel down it's length, these are separated by a raised ridge and may have originally contained enamel, though no trace now remains. This section terminates in a small collar above a triangular decoration, the bow then continues, it is convex in cross section for this section. The brooch is broken just below the triangular decoration with an old worn break.
