BRACELET

Unique ID: HAMP-1E9941

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Published Find published

An incomplete, unidentified object missing its setting and possibly a component part of a multi-sectioned bracelet or similar.
The object is rectangular in shape, measuring 22.98mm in length, 7.59mm in width and 2.68mm in height/ max.thickness. In total, it weighs 1.42g. The object has engrailed edges around the top and is hollow inside. The base of the inside surface retains a silver or tin plating or foil with a white substance around the edges, possibly a fixant of some kind. From the short edges a D-shaped in section projection extends, decorated to the top with numerous equidistant transverse ridges. From here three loops extend, decorated with a central longitudinal groove, which in turn hold in place a separate circular-sectioned bar; this is not gilded, contrasting with the rest of the object which is. One of the loops is incomplete with a section missing to the reverse.
The reverse of the object is flat and undecorated but gilded. Gilding or perhaps plating seems to cover the ends of the bars and the circular projections. The missing setting would have measured 15.92mm in length and 6.47mm in width.

Conclusion: After assessment by Judy Rudoe it was determined that the object is likely to be modern. This item does not qualify as Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996 as it cannot be determined to be over 300 years old.
