Medieval shield shaped harness pendant and suspension bar, cast copper alloy, now with much loss of surface. The pendant and bar are linked by a loop on the upper edge of the pendant which is secured between two lugs on the underside of the bar, there were formed by bending back flat projection to surround the linking pin. The bar has a flattened, D shaped section, 6.0 x 3.2mm, its underside being slightly hollow. Through it are two, 3.0mm diameter rivet holes and, at each end, is a projecting 'nose'. The pendant is shield-shaped, 17.2 x 14.0mm, and its face bears a checkered pattern made up of small squares of red enamel. A thirteenth-fourteenth century date is appropriate for this object. Length 35.3mm, Width 31.5mm, Thickness (pendant) 2.2mm, Mass 6.99g.
