Copper alloy medieval annular buckle or brooch dating from the 13th-15th century. The hoop is complete and in fair condition; the pin is missing. There is no indication that the ring had a recess for the pin or a pin rest, meaning that the pin was moving around the ring freely. The ring is largely plain, but half was decorated with diagonal grooves giving this half the appearance of 'rope pattern' or that it was twisted which is it was not - as can be seen from the reverse image, which is plain.
Medieval annular brooches/buckles were frequently part-twisted: IOW-DA111B, NMGW-3DF7B9, YORYM-9A191A and especially GLO-5F83A6.
