An incomplete copper alloy bow and fantail brooch dating to the Roman period (AD 50 - AD 150).
Only the foot and base of the bow still survives. The foot of the brooch is a characteristic triangular 'fantail' shape and decorated with a Celtic style scroll, with a lozenge cell above. Traces of red enamel decoration can also be seen. The remains of a catchplate projects centrally from the reverse of the foot.
The metal is very worn and mid-green in colour. The brooch is 20.4 mm long, 14.7 mm wide and 4.2 mm thick. It weighs 1.4 g.
Examples with very similar designs can be found in Hattatt (2000, p. 315, fig. 174, no. 76) and on the PAS database, such as YORYM-70940F.
