An incomplete lead alloy unifaced token, of the Late Medieval to Post Medieval period, dating from c. AD 1400 to c. AD 1800.
The token is broadly circular in plan and rectangular in section. The obverse design depicts a central almond shaped eye, with a pellet slightly off centre. There are two raised curved lines flanking the eye. (probably Powell Type: 31 or 33). The reverse is plain and undecorated.
The token measures 18.6 mm in diameter, it has a thickness of 2.8 mm and weighs 5.2 g.
The token is a mid brown colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail and has caused some damage to the token.
Lead tokens are a frequently occurring find, with a variety of different designs. Tokens like this, were used as tallies or as replacement low denomination coinage during the Medieval and Post Medieval periods.
