An incomplete copper alloy dress hook dating to the post medieval period (AD 1500 - AD 1700).
The dress hook comprises of a trefoil shaped main plate, decorated with a openwork, hatched knot design. Each running-end of the knot terminates in a small five-petalled rose, which marks the join between the main plate and the sub-rectangular attachment loop. A D-sectioned hook extends centrally from the base of the main plate, but is now bent forwards and missing the tip. A raised collar is present at the junction between the loop and hook, possibly decorated but the wear makes it difficult to see. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
The metal is worn and dark green in colour. The dress hook is 20.5 mm long, 18.9 mm wide and 1.6 mm thick. It weighs 2.2 g.
Comparable trefoil designs are depicted in Read (2008, p. 110, no. 437) and classified as Read Class E, Type 5. Other examples can also be found on the PAS database, such as YORYM-2CE435.
