Lead bag seal. Cast disc with traces of apertures on opposite edges. One side bears the crudely stamped letters or monogram: MR. The other side has a device comprising a vertical line crossed by three shorter horizontal lines, in form resembling a merchant's mark.
Paul Cannon and Stuart Elton have kindly combined their efforts in clarifying the origin of the seal, identifying its motif as a cross on shield with pellets. It was issued at the Baltic ports for attachment to a consignment of flax.
