An incomplete copper alloy of toggle of dumbell type, dating to the Iron Age (100 BC - AD 100).
The object is formed from a bulbous central boss with an arm projecting from each side. Each arm has a narrowed waist which expands to form circular terminals. Each terminal has a flattened face containing an S-shaped motif with expanded trumpet-like ends surrounded by recesses which would have held enamel and a raised border. Within each curve of the 'S' is a circular depression which would have also held enamel. The motif is similar to the form of dragonesque brooches such as LVPL-C72DBD.
At one side of the centre of the object are two circular depressions measuring 12mm in depth and 4mm in diameter. Surrounding the impressions are traces of iron corrosion. These may have held iron wire to form the loop of the toggle.
