A complete Gold Finger Ring of Medieval to Post-Medieval date (AD 1400-1600). The ring is composed of a five-pointed star bezel with a central, circular panel with tapering broadly rectangular shoulders and a D shaped hoop.

The Bezel is decorated with an incised pattern composed of a double linear boarder which respects the form of the bezel with pellets between. The central panel is circular with an incised pattern depicting human head or skull. A minor amount of black enamel is retained across the central motif. The reverse of the bezel has an incised pattern depicting a bust, of a female wearing Medieval style clothing. The central panel is wedged in place but was possibly originally fixed via an axis bar to allow the panel to be rotated to display each face. The outer edges of the bezel have incised lettering, which is abraded, and reads: IH/[.]RV/[.]L/[..]/IN/[.]OV. The shoulders are composed of curved volutes which narrow to the band which is undecorated.

The ring has a slightly distorted shape due to post depositional processes.

Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database: SOM-E43B31, PAS-345404 - 2006 T400 and NMS-0D2960 - 2014T323.
