An incomplete cast copper-alloy late Iron Age or early Roman period one-piece brooch of 'Nauheim derivative' La Tene III type dating to the 1st century. (AD,43-100). The head of the brooch is a bilateral spring in a spring coil which would have formed the pin. Part of the coil and pin are missing. Two of the spring coils are intact, curving backwards onto the front of the brooch body. From the spring the body extends in a sub-triangular form in plan, narrowing in the direction of the foot leading to the remains of a sub-triangular catchplate. The body is flat in section with nearly 90-degree curvature in profile and the catchplate has been bent to one side to catch the missing pin. There is no decoration. The brooch has an overall dark green patina. The brooch measures 32.2mm long, 6.9mm wide (spring), 3.1mm wide at body) 1.8mm thick (at body) and weighs 1.58 grams. Cf. Hattatt (2000: 290, fig.149, ref 12).
