Incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative brooch dating to the period c. AD 90 - 150. The pin is missing. The cylindrical wings house the corroded remains of the iron axis bar. They are plain except of a moulded circumferential ridge at the tip of each wing and on either side of the bow. On the underside of the head is an integrally cast loop. The bow arches steeply back from the head and tapers along the length. It exhibits a central longitudinal recess whcih retains traces of degraded enamel, now red in colour. The foot terminates in a moulded knob. The catchplate expands from approximately half-way along the bow and terminates in a worn break along the line of the pin rest. Traces of white metal coating are visible.
