Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An in complete lead or lead alloy standing weight, of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).

Overall the weight is cylindrical in shape, with a circular base. The sides of the weight are smooth and gradually taper towards the top. The suspension loop is missing.

It measures 41.0 mm in height, with a base diameter of 26.6 mm and a top diameter of 17.0 mm. It weighs 155.1 g or 5.47 oz.

It is a light to mid grey colour, with an uneven surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

Similar standing / pyramidal / hexagonal weights have been recorded on the PAS database including LEIC-7EFD23, LEIC-D9C2D0, YORYM-F52F85, WILT-ECEC12, SF-0B04D3 and SF-D59B31. All are considered to be Medieval to Post Medieval in dating (AD 1200 to AD 1600).
