An incomplete and bent late medieval copper alloy purse bar (c.1450-1500), consisting of two side bars and the central sub rectangular block. The arms are circular in cross section and terminate in a groove and then a round knop which would have held the missing purse frame in place. Underneath the arms are integral plates, with two circular attachment or sewing holes in each. Above this the arm is decorated with incised cross hatching. The plate curves up to meet the arm at the terminal end. The central block has a large central fixing hole from top to bottom where the hanging loop would be attached. The pursebar is 187mm long, 13.65mm deep and 7.53mm thick and weighs 68grammes. It has a green patina..
The purse bar is similar to Read 2001, p 130, no 905.
