An incomplete copper alloy Buckle of Medieval date (AD 1250-1400). The object is a stirrup shaped buckle frame. The buckle is a single loop, D-shaped buckle with an integral projecting knop extending from the curved edge. The knop has a single narrow collar and is flat on the reverse side. The strap bar is recessed and the pin is missing but retains a minor amount of iron corrosion from the pin.


The metal is a dark green in colour

Similar examples are illustrated in the Meol's report where it is suggested that they may also have functioned as pendants (Griffiths et al. 2007, 94, no.622ff).
