Copper alloy and iron probable mount. Cast bell-shaped discoid mount with boss with a central pit on its concave upper side, waisted below this. The stub of an iron fixing pin protrudes from the flat base. This is of rectangular section, width c.7mm, and resembles a knife tang more than it does a fixing - an alternative identification as a post-medieval knife pommel might therefore be entertained. Suggested date: probably Roman, 43-410.
