Copper alloy brooch. Hinged Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth type CD H 5. Completely plain tubular wings, clenched behind, retain an axis bar for a hinged pin [lost]. The wings are met by a D section bow with an upstanding longitudinal central ridge flanked by rounded mouldings; the relief features of the upper bow give out just before it meets the wings. The bow then tapers, though the lower bow and foot are lost. Suggested date: Early Roman, 50-100.
