An incomplete copper alloy annular brooch of quoit type, dating to the early Anglo-Saxon period (AD 470-570). The object is circular with a broad band and a flat rectangular cross-section, and a central perforation. It retains a small rectangular pin hole, visible from the back, now blocked with iron corrosion. Opposite this is a V-shaped notch within stops formed from a sub-rectangular raised border, decorated with two incised transverse lines. The brooch is decorated with an inner and an outer repeating incised short radiating linear borders both of which respect the edges and form of the object. The back of the object is undecorated. The remnants of iron corrosion on the front of the pin hole indicate that the lost pin was iron. There is a minor amount of loss of the outer edges of the object caused by post-depositional processes. The metal is a mid-green in colour with areas of pitting and corrosion.
The ridge around the V-shaped notch show that this broochis of quoit type (Ager 1985). Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database: NARC-63CBFD, BH-780DA1, FAJN-03B792, BH-8E9C92.
