An incomplete wheel thrown ceramic localware storage jar or urn dating to the Roman Period, c.AD43 - 410.

Description: The vessel remains as roughly the top third of the pot. The rim is near complete with a rough triangular sherd missing from a section of it and goes to the bottom of the neck. Both the Neck and rim are relatively wide, the rim while pronounced it is not substantial and doesn't curve extensivly down over the neck and has a rounded edge. The shoulder is very narrow and flat and the the long curve of the body starts verry soon after the rim becomes shoulder. There is an uneven hand made incised line running the circumference of the top of the body, with an apparent section where the potter slipped and had to redo it. The fabric of the pot is rough irregularly fired and varies around its circumference from various levels unoxidized/limited oxidisation through to oxidised surface (with unoxidised internal fabric) over a small section of the body and rim. Where oxidised the surface is a light orangey-brown and the unoxidised surface varues frin dark grey through to light grey-brown. It has mixed poorly sorted angular mixed size common shell and grog(?) inclusions, with additional common rounded black sandy grit inclusions throughout.

Measurements: 150mm high, 300mm in diameter (body, 145mm diameter (rim), 1148g in weight.
