A possibly clipped post-Medieval silver penny of James I (1603-1625), minted at London. Third Coinage, 1619-1625. Initial marks: trefoil/trefoil, 1613 (North 1991: 148, ref: 2128).

Obverse: I.D.G.ROSA.SINE.SPINA (A rose without thorns), Rose.

Reverse: TVEATVR VNITA DEVS (May God guard these united, i.e. kingdoms), Thistle.

Diameter: 13.3. Weight: 0.42g. DA=12:7.

The coin has been crudely pierced at about 2 o' clock and 9 o' clock on the reverse.
