STRAP FITTING

Unique ID: WILT-4E549A

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A complete cast copper alloy, strap fitting, dating to the period AD 1600 to AD 1700.

One of the objects end has a circular knop located at its tip. Attached to this is a rounded triangular shape. The edges from this shape narrow slightly and form a rectangular shape. Each shape is a different section to the fitting. From the rectangular section, follows open work of a lozenge shape with a small central circular perforation. The design follows back to the rectangular shape and finishes with the rounded triangle, but without the circular knop on its tip. The posterior of this fitting shows four attachment hooks.

The length for the fitting is 42.25mm, the maximum width is 12.13mm, and the weight is 5.64g.

17th Century strap fittings usually have two attachment lugs to the reverse, this particular example has four.
