Incomplete cast copper alloy Roman disc brooch with a plain edge, oval in plan and flat in profile. The upper face of the brooch is decorated with a central six-pointed star or sexfoil, each point terminates in a circular lobe, within a blue enamelled field. The centre of the sexfoil has a raised circular boss which also has blue enamel inlaid around it. This shape within the disc, of a sexfoil with lobes, in a field of blue enamel also compares well to the Roman plate brooches with projecting knops, so it may have been emulating these more elaborate brooches. The reverse of the brooch retains the double lugs for the spring and pin and part of the spring remains but the pin is broken and missing. Opposite the spring is the catchplate which is missing the securing lip.

Hattatt (2000) illustrates a very similar disc brooches on page 344, fig.203, nos.118, 518 & 1409, which are dated from the 2nd century AD.

See records BERK-9C09B3 and WILT-63996E for similar examples.
