A heavy copper alloy and iron object, possibly a mace-head of medieval date. The object is egg-shaped with a copper alloy body and an iron rod through the centre. There are several square holes around all sides of object, some retaining iron inserts, some empty but with iron staining suggesting these were all filled with iron inserts too. Although only a short length of the rod survives one end is thicker than the other, suggesting the thicker end was a shank or tang afixed to or part of the rest of the object (now missing) while the opposing end probably formed another spike. The holes are not diametrically opposite each other so it looks like each hole is individually located. Square holes with varied internal shapes between square and triangular. Quite crudely made.
This has been noted as an interesting find by the recorder.
