An incomplete silver penny of Aethelstan (924-939), 'circumscription cross' type (North 672), mint: Canterbury, moneyer: Torhtelm. Ref: North 1994: 134-5.
The coin is cracked and incomplete, missing part of the edge outside of the inscription between c.8-11 o'clock (obverse) and an uneven break can be seen from 2-5 o'clock (obverse) removing much of the inscripton. There is a small crack running across the inscription at approximately 7 o'clock (obverse, along upright of E in REX).
