A coarse flint scraper likely dating to the late Bronze Age or Iron age c.1000BC - 0BC .
Description: The scraper was produce from irregularly formed from a primary flake (indicated by the substantial cortex remaining on the dorsal face) knapped from a larger apparently naturally shattered flint (indicated by the multiple step like fractures on the top of the dorsal side). The ventral face has an area of invasive stepped variably angled retouch at the bottom (abutting the striking platform), as well as some fine retouch around the point perhaps creating a multi use tool. The flaking has left substantially conchoidal ripples on both sides of the flint and a substantial bulb of percussion on the ventral face, indicating hard hammer (stone on stone rather than antler, bone or padded stone) technology was used in its production. the flint is a dark grey brown with some lighter areas around the step like fractures on the ventral faces, the cortex is medium grey-brown
Measurements: 44.88mm high, 59.71mm wide, 14.4mm thick and 38.27g in weight.
Discussion: The coarse yet un patinated nature of this flint tool and its production by hard hammer technology makes a relatively late, i.e latter bronze age date most likely.
