A lead alloy two-part cloth seal, probably dating to c. 1650-1724. Both discs and the connecting strip survive. The discs are flat and circular in form, and both surfaces are very worn. The front face of the disc depicts a laureate bust right; traces of an inscription, now illegible. The reverse of the seal depicts a double rose, above which is the inscription: 838(star). The circumference is marked with a border of inwards pointing, narrow triangles. The entire object measures 25 mm in length, 17 mm in width, 2 mm in thickness. No weight was recorded for this object.
Although no exact parallel has been found, similar designs are commonly seen on late alnage seals, such as WAW-5F8532, BH-88CF06 and SOM-30BA48. Although local seals continued in use, the alnage taxation system ended in 1724 (Egan 1988) and a date range of c.1650-1724 seems likely.
