An incomplete copper alloy dolphin type brooch of the Roman period, dating from c. AD 55 - c. AD 100.
The pin, catchplate and foot are missing, presumed lost in antiquity.
Two cylindrical wings project from either side at the top. The wings have been decorated with raised ridges on the outer edge. Remains of the iron axis bar can be seen on the outer edges of the wings. The bow terminates in a broken rounded point, as a result of a break, presumed in antiquity. The foot and catchplate are missing presumed lost in antiquity. The brooch is undecorated.
The brooch measures 19.8 mm in length and is 22.3 mm wide. It has a thickness of 6.2 mm and weighs 6.2 g.
The brooch is a mid to light green in colour with an even patina. Abrasion caused by movement whilst within the plough soil may have resulted in the loss of some of the original surface detail.
