A complete, Post Medieval C16th-C17th, copper alloy, asymmetrical buckle with moulded decoration on the loops. Six lobed knops on the outside edge of the rectangular loop. Lobed knops at two symmetrical points on the outer edge of the rounded loop. Lobed protrusion either end of the strap bar. Little wear, there is a rusty stain from a once iron tongue now corroded away. There is also an attractive tinned surface and with a number of fine oblique hand file marks on the front but slightly more irregular corroded flat back surface. This is likely to date between 1575-1700. Ref. Buckles 1250-1800, Ross Whitehead, Greenlight Publishing 1996, page 92 No. 577. The buckle is 23.55mm long, 18.32mm wide, 2.36mm thick and weighs 2.9g.
