Treasure Case 2016 T1012
Description: Fragment, broken at both ends, of a rectangular-sectioned object, probably from the upper part of a post-medieval silver bodkin or head-dress pin. Of four apertures two are incomplete. A central division between them as well as two opposed small lateral projections are engraved on both faces with leaf motifs. Beyond a transverse rib the narrow faces are convex and both broad faces are engraved with longitudinal lines, some slightLY curving.
Dimensions: Length: 15.8mm, width: 8.7mm, thickness: 3.4mm, weight: 2.04g.
Date: c. AD 1600 - 1700.
Discussion: A number of similar objects identified as bodkins or dress pins have been reported as Treasure and are recorded on the PAS database including: DOR-1944C3 (2015 T350), BUC-816668 (2016 T524), DOR-FC82EC (2014 T497) & SF-21AC84.
The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently, in terms of both age and precious metal content, it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
