Medieval (13th to 14th centuries) buckle plate: A sub semi circular copper alloy buckle plate with a broad scalloped curved edge. The straight edge is narrowed and folded towards the reverse and has a rectangular slot in the centre. The outer face is decorated with a design similar to a windmill. At the slot there are three small concentric rings with two 'sails' extending from the centre of the rings. The sails are decorated with fine, transverse ribbing. Across the straight edge there is a notched line. All the decoration is in low-relief. The plate has three rivet holes which are equi-distant around the curved edge.
There is an incomplete mid green patina which is incomplete and there are patches of red copper corrosion.
The plate measures 27.79mm long and 41.31mm wide. It weighs 6.64g.
The style of the decoration probably dates the buckle plate to the 1th to 14th centuries.
