A copper alloy post-medieval toggle clasp dating from 1500 - 1700; it is probably a sword belt fitting. The object consists of a sub-rectangular main body with an integral openwork circular loop at the broader end, the openwork resembling a four-lobed leaf. The loop is not complete (through wear and damage) and the top right part is missing, Attached to the loop is a smaller circular suspension-loop, offset to one side and perpendicular to the body of the clasp. The body is formed of three transverse moulded ridges that are hollow to the reverse. There is a break at end of the third ridge. The ridges are divided by grooves and there is a rivet hole in the body of the first ridge. The rivet hole retains corroded iron residue.
The object measures 37.37mm in length, and 21.29mm maximum width. The body is 9.43mm in width. The open circular hoop has a diameter of 14.33mm, and the suspension-loop has a diameter of 8.17mm. The ridges 4.53mm in length, and the grooves are 1.76mm in length. The upper body that joins to the open loop is 5.38mm. The fitting weighs 3.91g.
