Incomplete copper alloy Roman Colchester derivative (rearhook) brooch. The pin, the tips of both wings, most of the bow, the foot and the catchplate are missing.
The remaining portion of the wings are C-shaped in cross-section, with a recessed reverse to house the sprung pin mechanism, now missing. There are traces of iron corrosion present within the recess. Projecting from the centre of the head is a rearward facing hook which terminates in a worn break. The bow arches back from the head and is decorated by three stepped moulded V-shaped ridges. The bow terminates in a worn break.
