An incomplete silver Soldino, Venitian coin of Medieval date Type A issued by Doge Michele Steno (AD 1400-1413).
Obverse: Doge standing left, holding a standard in both hands and a six-pointed star over G in the field. Inscription: MICHAEL [STE I]N DVX.
Reverse: Winged and nimbate lion of Saint Mark facing in a sitting position (the Coat of Arms of the City of Venice). Inscription: S.M[ARCVS] VENETI. Mint name: Venice.
These coins were illegally circulated in England often entering the country from Galley Wharf on the River Thames in London and were called 'Galley halfpence'.
The coin is missing a small portion of its outer flan between 12-1 O'clock
