An incomplete copper-alloy Roman plate brooch, dating to the period AD 150-250. The brooch is oval in shape, measuring 31.35mm in length and 23.03mm in width. It weighs 6.68g. The flat plate is divided into three zones by two reserved metal ridges concentric with the oval outer rim. The patina of the central zone is lighter than the two outer zones, which is off white in parts. The rest of this zone is a lighter green, with a few patches of light brown. The other two zones are mostly light brown in patina, with patches of light to mid green. There is no trace of decoration on either side of the plate brooch but it can be assumed a central oval setting has been lost. On the reverse, the catchplate is complete, but the pin is missing. A single lug projects opposite the catchplate with a pierced hole. The patina on the reverse of the brooch is light brown around the catchplate and lug, but light to mid green elsewhere.
This brooch has parallels to Bailey and Butcher (2004) no.386, p134, but also HAMP-E0BBB0 and HAMP-F312A1.
