A struck, copper alloy, Post Medieval, half-penny token. The token was issued by John Hill in Hereford and is dated 1657
The obverse has the legend IOHN HILL HEREFORD around a central beaded oval containing the denomination 1/2 D.
The reverse has the legend HIS HALFE PENEY 57 around a centralbeaded oval containing the initals IH.

Williamson notes that John Hill was mayor of Hereford in 1659 and issued tokens in both Hereford and later in Ross-on-Wye (in 1666). He is listed amongst the benefactors of the Cathedral Library and is buried within the Church of St. Nicholas "Buryed the 10th day of June 1670 Mr John Hill Alderman of this city whose happiness it was in his time of mayoralty to proclaime King Charles II King of England (pp279-80)
