A complete iron Shot/Cannonball of probable Post-Medieval date (AD 1600-1700). The object is sub-spherical in shape slightly flattened on two opposite faces. The surface is heavily pitted and corroded with much of the adhering iron corrosion having been removed following its discovery.
The size is small either suggesting it was used as grape shot or that it was for a small hand-held cannon (possibly a rabinet (1inch bore). A similar example which can be found on the PAS database is NARC-49A3CE.
Dimensions: 25mm in diameter, 62.5g.
The object was discovered by the landowner in the farm yard and was picked up by the tractor tracks following ploughing. A larger cannon ball recorded as LVPL-C528F4 was found close by.
