Complete copper alloy thimble of Medieval date, probably mid-fourteenth to mid-sixteenth century. Length 17mm, width 17mm and 0.5mm thick. Weight 2.49g.

The rim is not thickened and it is undecorated. The thimble is slightly squashed. The sides taper towards the crown which is hemispherical although slightly flattened. Circular indentations are arranged in a spiral with 8-9 turns revolving in an anti-clockwise direction from the rim to the crown. The crown has three concentric circles of indentations. All the indentations vary in size and are not very evenly spaced. None of the indentations have pierced the thimble. The metal is a reddish colour with small patches of active bronze disease. Probably hand-made.
