An incomplete medieval copper-alloy buckle with integral plate, dating to the period 1200-1400. From the end opposite to the frame the remains of two hooks extend. The buckle measures 39.46mm in length and 15.29mm at its widest. The thickness of the buckle is 2.17mm, and in total it weighs 3.39g.
The buckle is complete except for missing its pin and at least one of the hooks. The presence of iron oxide in a piercing in the plate just behind the frame indicates that the pin was made of iron. The overall patina of the buckle is a light green, and there are traces of gilding. The end opposite to the frame bifurcates with a slot between, each arm becoming a hook although both arms bifurcate again if turned through 90 degrees suggesting they may have formed loops rather than hooks.
