A copper-alloy Colchester derivative brooch dating to the period AD 43 to AD 100. The brooch possesses two rectangular wings, which are hemispherical in section and would have originally accommodated the spring mechanism. Two lugs extend from the reverse of the brooch. A small portion of the spring mechanism and the overhead chord survive separate to the brooch and there is iron corrosion within the wing and the lower of the two lugs The upper surface of the wings is decorated with a series of vertical and diagonal grooves. On the left wing, there are two marginal vertical grooves, followed by a curved groove and finishing with a further vertical groove where the wing meets the bow. On the right wing, there is only a single vertical groove, followed by a curved groove and finishing with a similar vertical groove where the wing meets the bow.
The bow possesses a pronounced hump and is approximately hemispherical in section. It tapers slightly and ends in a rectangular foot. The bow is decorated with two prominent vertical ribs which extend the full length of the bow and join together as the bow tapers to a point. The catchplate is large and trapezoidal in shape. It measures 66mm in length. The wings measures 42mm in width. The bow measures a maximum of 10mm in width. The brooch weighs 34.01g.
