A fragment of a copper alloy Medieval to post Medieval vessel, dating to the period c.AD 1100-1700. The fragment comprises the foot, which is triangular in cross section along most of its length, although it becomes rounded at its lower terminal. The upper terminal would have attached to the vessel, and now exhibits a worn break. A green patina is on the surface, and sooting is present over much of the surface.

Cast cooking vessels seem to have been in use from c.AD 1100 until c.1850, when they were superseded by cast iron pots and saucepans designed for use on kitchen ranges (Butler, Green and Payne 2009, 1).

The vessel foot measures 76.07mm in length, 38.45mm in width at its widest, 23.90mm at its narrowest, 26.84mm at its thickest, 15.27mm at its thinnest and weighs 176g.
