A complete knapped lithic implement of Neolithic date, circa 4000 - 2300 BC. The implement is a scraper formed from a tertiary flake which is D-shaped in plan and section. The ventral surface is smooth with a large bulb and faint radiating ripples of percussion. The dorsal surface is irregular displaying numerous flake removals. Long, parallel, abrupt retouch is present on the distal edge, extending a short way into both sides.
The flint is a light grey colour with patchy lighter inclusion and iron staining. The implement is 29.4mm long, 24.3mm wide, 9.1mm thick and weighs 7.9g.
Scrapers are fairly ubiquitous throughout prehistory and are generally less chronologically distinctive than other artefact types. They had many different functions as they were very useful tools and were employed, for example, for skinning animals, removing the fatty deposit from hinds and much more.
