A complete medieval gold finger ring, AD.1200-1450. The ring consists of a simple gold band made from oval section gold wire, this joins a central bezel with a shoulder ridge upon either side. The band has been distorted post deposition but is otherwise complete. The bezel is set with a single teardrop shaped red stone, possibly a garnet. The setting stands above the band, flaring outwards slightly. It matches the stone in shape and so the setting is also teardrop shaped. Egan and Pritchard 1991, discuss a similar ring No.1610, which dates to the 14th century, though other examples have been dated earlier than this.
