A fragment of an Aesica brooch dating to the period AD 43 to 80. The fragment comprises the head and mid-bow plate. The foot and catchplate are missing. The head comprises two small, rectangular wings with semi-circular end-plates. The end-plates are pierced to accommodate an axis bar, but are broken. The pin and axis bar are missing. There is a notch at the middle of the head, presumably for the pin. Extending from the head is a curved, trilobed plate, with each lobe being a small, circular extension. From below this plate, there extends a flat, approximately triangular mid-bow plate with two further circular lobes. The upper curved plate is secured to this lower plate with a small, circular rivet, visible on the underside of the mid-bow. Tinning is visible in the upper surfaces of the brooch. The brooch measures 30mm in length. The wings measure 24mm in width; the upper curved plate measures a maximum of 28mm in width; the lower plate measures a maximum of 28mm. It weighs 12.11g
