Medieval copper alloy buckle plate, 30mm long, 26mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 9.36grams. The plate is rectangular in form and cross section and is formed of two plates, one larger than the other, which are joined by two short strips. These have been folded over to form a hinge like attachment and the two plates have been joined by a rivet in each far corner. The larger plate is decoarted with a slightly inset, raised solid border which contains an image in slight relief. This shows a backwards facing beast, with an S shaped body and for legs, to the left with a male figure, possibly helmeted, leaning forward with arms outstretched towards the beasts neck. This could represent Daniel and the lion or George and the dragon? The remiander of the field has slight stippling and there are traces of gilding all over the surface.
