An incomplete cast copper alloy Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) small-long brooch of late fifth to sixth century (c. AD 475 - c. AD 600). The fragment comprises the head of the brooch with it cruciform terminal and a small section of the upper bow. The head of the brooch has three crescentic arms each decorated on its outer edge with two or three annulets. The rest of the head is plain and undecorated. The upper portion of the bow below the head has two incised horizontal bands immediately above the arch of the bow; the rest of the brooch is missing. On the reverse is the remains of the pin lug.
Several brooches with similarly designed heads are illustrated in MacGregor and Bolick (1993:138-147) with the head of no. 15.83 being the closest comparison to that recorded here, however the crescentic cruciform head is not uncommon and appears in many varieties.
