An incomplete copper-alloy Roman plate brooch, dating to the period AD 150-250. The brooch is oval in shape, measuring 26.76mm in length and 22.21mm in width. It weighs 6.52g. The flat plate is divided into two zones by a reserved metal ridge concentric with the oval outer rim. The outer rim, outer zone and reserved metal ridge all show the presence of white metal coating (silvering or tinning). The patina of the central zone is darker than that of the outer zone, which retains traces of enamel decoration and has alternating ptches of a now very deep red colour with a very bright, light green. There is no further decoration on this side, nor on the reverse. The catchplate is complete, but the pin is missing. A single lug projects opposite the catchplate with a pierced hole, now filled with iron corrosion, and iron staining on one of its faces from the missing spring mechanism.

This brooch has parallels to Bailey and Butcher (2004) no.386, p134, and also HAMP-E0BBB0.
