An incomplete copper-alloy mount of Roman date, c.AD 150 - 300. The mount is circular with a domed upper surface and flat reverse. The upper surface is decorated with twenty five (25) recessed square cells set out in a chequerboard pattern. The cells retain alternating yellow and red enamel. The remains of an integral circular shank project from the centre of the reverse.
The metal has a dark brown patina and is worn. The mount is 26.6mm in diameter, 6.4mm thick and weighs 11.8g.
