An incomplete pewter (lead alloy) spoon of medieval to post-medieval date. The spoon bowl is fig-leaf shaped in plan and curves in profile. The stem is lozenge-shaped in cross-section and terminates in a recent break. File marks are visible on the faceted sides of the stem. The edges of the bowl have been slightly damaged, possibly due to abrasion from within the plough soil. There are no stamps or maker's marks on the object.
When complete this spoon may have had a decorative knop such as an acorn knop, see YORYM-AEDA75 https://finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/276333. Egan(1998) illustrates pewter spoons with makers mark of similar form but not identical to this (p250-252).
