A post Medieval four-disc lead cloth alnage seal dating to the period c. AD 1500-1600.The seal consists of four circular discs in two conjoined pairs pressed back to back and connected by a central folded tab between the inner discs of each pair and and by a rivet between the outer discs. The outer most discs are considerably smaller than the inner pair closest to the tab. One of the larger discs has a raised design of a crowned tudor style rose surrounded by the legend DORSET. SHIRE within a pelleted border. The outer disc attached to it contains a central inscription of [...]HD with a small cross above and unclear nmumbers below all contained within a pelletted border around which is a further inscription [...]EG[....]. This is stamped onto the rivet which projects from the other small disc through a hole in the centre of this smal disc

The other large disc is folded over on itself hiding the outerface which appears, where visible to have further raised lettering. The final small disc conjoined to this one is plain.

The seal appears to differ from the know Dorsetshire series illustrated by Egan (1994: p25) no 13 which he dates to the seventeenth century and thus probably pre- dates this series.

It is 30.83mm in overall length, the larger of the four discs is 14.67mm in diameter while the smaller is14.41mm it has a thickness of 3.13mm and a weight of 7.89g
